THE BENEFITS OF AN ENERGY EFFICIENT HVAC DESIGN

 Spring is here and with summer close behind, we’ll all be using our air conditioning systems to stay cool and refreshed during the constant heat. We’ve all experienced an increase in our living costs, so if you’re worried about expensive energy bills this summer, why not invest in some energy efficient HVAC designs? 

The older your HVAC system is, the more expensive your energy bills will probably be, because your air conditioner becomes less efficient as time goes on. The average lifespan of a commercial HVAC system is approximately 15 to 20 years, so if your system is on the older side, there are upgrades and changes you can make now that result in more energy efficiency and lower energy bills. Here are just some of the benefits of an energy efficient HVAC design:

Although it may seem costly to invest in a completely new system, or to make upgrades to your current system, in the long run it pays off. Even though it can seem costly upfront,  when your HVAC system is more energy efficient, your monthly bills will be lower moving forward. With costs rising and people looking to reduce their monthly expenditures however possible, consider investing in a newer, more energy efficient HVAC system.

Older, inefficient HVAC systems need to work very hard, often to the point of strain or breaking down, in order to keep your property at the desired temperature. We’ve all been inconvenienced by an HVAC system breaking down, and for commercial property owners it can really interfere with business. Not to mention, emergency call-out fees and repair fees are very expensive. 

Newer, energy efficient HVAC systems don’t need to work as hard to meet your building’s heating and cooling needs. These systems remain in better condition for a longer length of time, require fewer repairs, and are less likely to break down than older HVAC systems. While considering the cost of investing in a new system, you should factor this into consideration as well. 

Receive tax rebates and incentives

In an effort to encourage more people to invest in energy efficient HVAC systems, some states now offer tax rebates and various financial incentives that can help make the cost of a new air conditioning system more affordable. New Jersey, for example, a program called The 2023 Home Performance with ENERGY STAR connects property owners with trusted and experienced HVAC contractors who will identify areas where energy efficiency can be improved. Qualified borrowers can receive up to $5,000 of cash-back incentives, and up to $15,000 worth of zero-interest financing through this program. 

The system lasts longer

As we mentioned above, energy-efficient HVAC systems don’t need to work as hard as older systems to warm or cool your building to the desired temperature. Less strain on the system means it’s less likely to break down, and with regular maintenance checks by your commercial HVAC technician, an energy-efficient system should last you around 20 years. It’s absolutely an investment worth making, especially when you factor in costs like emergency call-out fees and expensive repair costs, plus not to mention the huge inconvenience to your building occupants every time the HVAC system breaks down.
